At the Pennsylvania State University, students complete anonymous evaluations at the end of each semester in which they rate aspects of the teacher and the course. These are called Student Ratings of Teaching Effectiveness or SRTEs. The items are determined by the university and departments and are rated on a scale from 1 (lowest rating) to 7 (highest rating). Below is a table showing the average ratings I have received from each course taught on the item "Rate the overall quality of the instructor." Ratings appear in pairs when I taught two sections of the same course in a semester.
A complete summary of all student ratings for all questions is also available in PDF format. For an interpretation of these ratings for evidence of teaching effectiveness, see my section on Teaching Effectiveness. For a discussion on what these ratings show about areas for improvement, see my section on Improvement.
